WHO

WE ARE

Smart Growth Greater Madison (Smart Growth) was founded in 2003 by a group of local real estate developers to represent the voice of the real estate development community in Madison.  Later, the scope of the organization was expanded to include all of Dane County.  Developers of office buildings, mixed-use buildings, multi-family housing, hotels, retail spaces, industrial buildings, and residential subdivisions continue to be the Principal Members of Smart Growth.

Businesses and organizations that are not developers but are involved in real estate development and construction in Dane County are invited to join Smart Growth to support its important mission (see link to mission below) and for networking and business development opportunities.  These Associate Members include property managers, general contractors, subcontractors, architecture firms, construction managers, engineering firms, consulting firms, accounting firms, law firms, commercial lenders, title companies, insurance brokers, and labor organizations.

Owners and employees of member companies are encouraged to participate in Smart Growth's events and receive Smart Growth's communications about proposed public policy initiatives that would impact real estate development and construction.

INFO

Social Gatherings

Smart Growth's annual golf outing is the premier gathering of professionals involved in real estate development and construction in Dane County, usually drawing 170 golfers plus exhibitors.  In addition, Smart Growth organizes other fun gatherings throughout the year for members to socialize and network with each other.

Community Visits

Smart Growth members gather with key staff leaders in communities throughout Dane County to help our members be aware of development opportunities in those communities.  These gatherings also offer members the opportunity to socialize and network with each other.

Smart Growth brings in speakers on topics of interest to members.  The presentations and question and answer sessions are followed by a happy hour gathering.

Knowledge & Networking

Committee Opportunities

Members are encouraged to have some of their owners or employees serve on the Public Policy Committee or Events & Membership Committee.  The Public Policy Committee researches and writes public policy positions for the Board of Directors to consider.  The Events & Membership Committee plans the annual golf outing and other networking, social and educational events which enhance the value of membership in Smart Growth.
